Our story

Growing up in Tokyo, our founder Yoko was obsessed with all things kinako – kinako mochi, kinako ice cream, kinako cookies. After moving to New York, she was always on the hunt for kinako-based products – mostly without success.

 

That’s when Yoko had the idea: to bring the sweet, versatile, nutty taste of kinako to the States. Then she started making kinako drinks for her close friends at picnics, making tweaks and iterations on her recipes over time to get the flavor just right.

So what is kinako, you ask?

It’s a delicate, sweet-tasting powder crafted by roasting soybeans to exacting standards. And in Japan, master kinako makers have been perfecting this craft for over 500 years.
